Brian Mellor is an award winning Master Chef of Great Britain, former Head Chef at BBC and Executive Chef at Granada TV. He has been involved in almost everything to do with food from cooking privately for celebrities and royalty to overseeing dozens of chefs in busy restaurants.
The exclusive news for this year is that Brian has opened a cookery school in Cheshire, in the old Harthill Village School. Built in the 1800’s, it has magnificent panoramic views across Cheshire and Wales, being just a few minutes away from Bolesworth Castle with other two famous neighbours: Beeston Castle and Peckforton Castle.
The grade II listed building has been carefully renovated to retain its character and keep its place at the heart of the community: a place for learning, meeting artisans and discovering tastes.
Brian Mellor's Cookery School in Cheshire is a vibrant centre for professionals and public to indulge their passion for food, or indeed those taking their first tentative steps into the kitchen. As well as his own experience, Brian has enlisted the help of his expert colleagues to run cooking classes – so expect an enthusiastic influx of chocolatiers, artisan bakers, cheese makers, game keepers and the like for hands on sessions and demonstrations! Not to mention the link with nationally acclaimed nutritionists and dieticians.
Plush penthouses, bustling brasseries, executive dining rooms and historic country inn’s sit neatly in his portfolio as do college kitchens, staff restaurants and rain sodden farmers markets! At one time, you’d even have found him sailing in ships’ Galleys advising and training multi-national P&O crews, and yes…clinging on for life in rough seas! That’s without even mentioning the lovingly rescued monastery in Manchester which is now a unique venue. Along the way, he’s studied some more picking up advanced qualifications, teaching certificates and several awards from professional bodies and the media: Master Craftsman by the Craft Guild of Chefs, Masterchef of Great Britain, Food Hero of the Year 2008.
Brian is also instantly recognisable at food festivals and has been at the forefront of our chefs performing live. His cookery demonstrations are entertaining and carefully adorned with useful information about ingredients and good food. He has been constantly supporting local producers, advocating cooking with home-grown ingredients and working with nature’s best.
He is involved in many cookery competitions across North-West such as Chairman of Judges for the North-West Young Chef Competition, Judge for the Northern Chef of the Year and Judge for The Great Northern Cook Off alongside famous fellow-chefs.
In the last two years, he has been determined to delve deeper into the world of food and began to run cookery courses on the Wirral. The success of the courses showed that the interest in cooking is stronger than ever, people enjoying a day out learning to cook simple but delicious food.
